Understanding Sock Materials

Posted on:

At Floorplay we carry socks made from a variety of fibres. Read this information page to find out the right kind of sock for you!

Cotton: This classic sock material is a soft fibre with a high amount of breathability. At Floorplay we have a variety of cotton yarn. Combed cotton means that the yarn is put through multiple finishing processes to remove impurities which makes the fabric softer to the touch. Mercerized cotton yarn is put through even more finishing processes so the colours stay bright.

Bamboo: Bamboo is a natural fibre that is softer and stronger than cotton. It makes great socks because it is quick to absorb moisture – this makes sure your feet stay blister free and don’t get smelly. Plus they feel like silk so you feel like you are walking on clouds.

Wool: Wool socks are reliably warm and keeps your feet dry. This fibre makes the perfect winter sock because wool can wick away up to 1/3 of its weight in moisture! At Floorplay we also have products made from merino wool. Merino wool takes all the great insulating qualities of regular wool, but due to its extremely fine fibres it becomes softer than regular wool.

Polyester: This fibre allows for more details and vivid colours in the design while remaining durable. Since polyester has a high elasticity, socks made from this fibre will retain their shape well. Provides a snug fit while absorbing moisture.
